XTERRA/ITU wetsuit/water temperature rules will be in place on race day which means the water temperature has to be below 72 degrees or lower to be wetsuit legal for amateurs. *Please remember to bring a blank check or cash for payment, your ID or License and USAT membership card (if a member). No Credit Credit cards will work at Walnut Creek Park.

*Race shirts will be ordered two business weeks in advance of race day. Those who register two weeks before the event will be guaranteed a race shirt.

SUPerman Runs & Trail Runs

  •7:00-8:45am - Trail & SUPerman Run packet pickup (sorry, no triathlon packet pickups will be ready in the AM)

  1. •8:00am - 15k Trail Run race starts

  2. •8:15am - 7k Trail Run race starts

  3. •9:00am - SUPerman Run 7k starts

  4. •      9:30am - (approximate) Awards begin for 7k, then SUP & 15k close to 10:00am

  5. •     10:00am - Practice mountain biking opens on 5 mile bike race loop or once last runner is

  6.        off this portion. Swimming practice allowed only in the designated lifeguarded swim area

  7.        when lifeguards are on duty. Please follow the park’s swimming rules or you will be

  8.        subject to disqualification.

  9. •     11:00am - Practice mountain biking opens on 3 mile loop once last trail runner is finished.

  10. •     1:00pm - 4:00pm Triathlon Packet pickup and walk up registration at Walnut Creek Park.

  11. •      2:00 - 3:00pm Kid’s and Adults mountain bike skills clinic taught by local mountain bike

Swim Start & Exit

Both the XTERRA and Sprint race swims will be a calm lake swim in warm, clear waters. The XTERRA race will complete two 750meter loops which includes a signature 100m XTERRA beach run between each loops. The Sprint racers will do one 750meter loop. There will be a wave start format with each wave starting from the wide beach shore approximately 2-4 minutes apart from the previous wave. After exiting the swim onto the same beach, participants will run to the transition area to start the mountain bike portion.

Race Rules

  1. •     USAT rules in conjunction with XTERRA’s off-road rules will be enforced. Please review the

  3. •     Chip timing will be used. If you lose or don’t return your chip, a $50 chip fee to cover the chip cost will be charged to the participant.

  4. •     The race director reserves the right to alter the event for any reason.

Please note the race director reserves the right to add or delete a number of awards in age group categories prior to race day based on registrants in that category 2 weeks prior to race day. Awards will not be mailed out.

XTERRA Tri Championship Qualifying Information

How to qualify for the XTERRA USA Championship which is held annually in Ogden, Utah typically the third weekend in September.

The XTERRA Charlottesville Triathlon is one of over 70 XTERRA points series races held in the United States. Competitors earn points based on their finishing place. Racers use these points to vie for the title of the XTERRA Regional Champion. The XTERRA Charlottesville Triathlon is one of only a few points series races in the Mid-Atlantic Region and one not to miss. These points also earn them the ability to qualify for the XTERRA USA National Championship held five weeks later at the end of the season in Ogden, Utah! The National Championship is the culmination of the XTERRA points series races and crowns the winner of each age group an XTERRA USA Champion! How to qualify for the XTERRA World Championship which is held annually in Maui, Hawaii typically the last weekend in October.

The XTERRA Atlantic Regional Championship held in Richmond, VA typically the second weekend in June is one of five XTERRA World Championship qualifier races within the United States. The XTERRA USA Championship is also one of these qualifier races. If you place high enough in your age group (usually the top 1, 2 or possibly 3) at any of these five qualifier races you will qualify for the XTERRA World Championship. This race is the highlight of the XTERRA season with the best professionals and age groupers from all over the world coming together to race the most challenging event in a paradise setting. Rain Date

There will be NO rain date. In case of inclement weather, race management reserves the right to alter/mod the race course for safety considerations. In the case of a natural disaster, there will be no refunds of race entry fees. XTERRA Charlottesville has an alternative gravel road and road course in case trails are determined too unsafe to ride.

Kate Lucas, the owner of Charlottesville Multisports, a USAT certified race director and 13 year XTERRA competitor plus 6x XTERRA World Championship qualifier, will be the 2014 XTERRA Charlottesville Race Director. Charlottesville Multisports is race directing the August 17th XTERRA Charlottesville and the September 13th Wisdom Oak Winery Sprint and Olympic road triathlons on behalf of the non-profit Charlottesville Tri Club.
